what's the deal?

an 'EWI' - electronic wind instrument - is a synthesizer or midi controller that you play by blowing into it like a wind instrument.

the DRAGONFLY is a kind of EWI or 'wind synthesizer' with the following design goals in mind:

- Pick-up-and-play: no external hardware or software needed to start playing. You don't even need a neck strap! The DRAGONFLY's built in speaker means you're never completely unable to play.

- Endlessly customizable & modular: The DRAGONFLY features magnetic parts that can snap in and out of place to swap out fingering layouts and mouthpiece shape to suit players of all backgrounds and skill levels. You could even design your own custom parts for it!

- Reprogrammable: The DRAGONFLY is based on the Teensy family of microcontrollers, and connecting it to the Arduino IDE will allow you to upload your own custom code, giving you the power to create something totally unique to you that you can pick up and play.

- Portable, sleek, & beautiful: The DRAGONFLY's small shape allows it to easily fit in a backpack or tote bag. Its striking organic design stands out from the pack and looks just as cool as it sounds.

Voice in the Dark (May 2025)

One of my first performances with the Dragonfly in concert.

A simple solo piece with no accompaniment. I like to think of the EWI as my 'voice'... so this piece is me, speaking simply, softly, plainly, in the dark, with my new voice.
